Action News JAX Launches Jacksonville’s Only High-Tech TV Station Weather Vehicle

Friday, July 08, 2016 — JACKSONVILLE, FL - July 8, 2016 - CBS47 Action News Jax has launched First Alert StormTracker – Jacksonville’s only dedicated weather vehicle, proving once again, they’re the news and weather leader in Jacksonville, St. Johns County and the surrounding area.

“We just launched the areas only television news chopper a few weeks ago, and now we’re launching First Alert StormTracker,” said Jim Zerwekh, Vice President and General Manager of WFOX and WJAX TV. “The fact we’re doing this only reinforces our commitment to our TV viewers and digital users that we are dedicated to covering important local news and weather to keep them better informed and safe.”

First Alert StomTracker is more than a 4x4 Jeep Wrangler. It’s loaded with state-of-the-art weather forecasting technology, more powerful than what many TV stations currently use.

“The First Alert Storm Tracker will be our eyes on the ground and will be able to verify for us what we’re seeing on our First Alert Doppler HD Radar,” says Action News Jax Chief Meteorologist Mike Buresh. “We can measure rain, wind speed and the number of lightning strikes. We will track the storm from one neighborhood to the next using radar imagery and cameras inside the First Alert StormTracker that will give you a 360 degree view of the storm. When combined with First Alert Doppler HD Radar and the only staff of four Certified Broadcast Meteorologists in Jacksonville, it’s weather coverage that is one of a kind.”

“First Alert StormTracker will give an inside look at storms and their severity and intensity, as these storms approach where viewers live,” added Bob Longo, News Director for Action News Jax. “It’s another tool for our First Alert meteorologists to track and forecast storms, unmatched technology to keep you and your family safe.”

You can see First Alert StormTracker on CBS47 and FOX30 during newscasts and anytime during severe weather on actionnewsjax.com or on our mobile and digital platforms.
