ST. PETERSBURG, FL.— Cox Media Group (“CMG”) today announced Morning Show Host Mike Calta of the top rated Mike Calta Show was highlighted on February 21, 2020, on WTVT – Fox 13’s Good Day Tampa Bay. The feature shared Calta’s career journey – from starting as an intern to his rise to prominence as Tampa Bay’s high profile and top rated
morning show.

Calta, who joined “The Bone” in 2007 as “Cowhead,” has been with Tampa Bay radio since 1989. Calta left the “Cowhead” moniker in April 2014, and took over mornings on WHPT later that summer. He has been entertaining Tampa Bay with endless interviews with top comics, actors and athletes while putting his twist on local and national trending topics. Calta uses this formula to sit atop the ratings heap with both men and adults 25-54.

Last fall, Calta started his own 501c3 charitable organization “The Calta Family Foundation,” using his humble beginnings and upbringing to give back to teens and young adults. Most recently, his tie in with the Trans-Siberian’s Orchestra’s show raised more than $14,000.

“I was a really poor kid growing up, like we were really poor,” said Calta. “So, I’ve been saying I’m rich since I was making 30 grand a year. I have a great life and it could be gone at any second in this business.”
