Thursday, September 22, 2016 — Cox Media Group (CMG) Atlanta’s B98.5 (WSB-FM/Atlanta) is honored to be part of the 46th Annual Atlanta Pride Festival, Oct. 8-9, 2016. The Tad & Melissa Show’s Melissa Carter will be featured as part of the Cox Enterprises team in the Parade (Oct. 9) and will make special appearances in the B98.5 booth at the marketplace throughout the weekend.
Melissa Carter is Atlanta’s first openly LGBT morning show host and continues to be one of few in the country. Serving the Atlanta community for over 20 years, Carter was also one of the hosts of “Radio with a Twist,” the country’s first nationally-syndicated show geared exclusively toward the LGBT community. She is the recipient of HRC’s Community Leadership Award and the CHRIS Kids Kyle Anderson Service to Youth Award. Carter currently writes the column, “That’s What She Said,” in GA Voice.
“I remember my first Atlanta Pride right after college, because it was really the first time I realized I wasn’t the only gay person in the world,” said Carter. “I think many don’t realize how isolating it is to grow up gay since unlike other minorities you are likely the only one in your family dealing with the struggle. That alone is why so many kids and adults stay in the closet, out of fear of rejection in their own home. To see thousands at Atlanta Pride just like you gathered together in support and celebration is truly life-changing.”
