BOSTON – Boston 25 News (WFXT-TV), a Cox Media Group station, has been honored with a National Murrow Award for Excellence in Social Media in a large TV market by the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA). The station has been recognized with this prestigious award for its coverage of the Merrimack Valley explosions in 2018.
When excessive pressure in natural gas lines caused a series of explosions and fires in Massachusetts’ Merrimack Valley region, residents turned to Boston 25 News on all screens for important news, information and guidance.
“Our ability to provide this level of coverage and support in a breaking news situation is at the core of what we do and it is truly rewarding to be recognized for the significant and impactful work we do every day. We helped more people understand what was happening during this dangerous situation than any other news outlet, and we’re really proud of that,” says Joe Pomilla, vice president and general manager of Boston 25 News.
The National Murrow Award recognizes local and network radio, television and digital news organizations for exceptional journalism. RTDNA has recognized outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with this award since 1971. Winners will be honored at the Edward R. Murrow Awards Gala in October.
