Charlotte’s WSOC-TV Names Michelle Harper as General Sales Manager

CHARLOTTE – Jan. 7, 2015 Cox Media Group (CMG) Charlotte has named Michelle Harper as its new General Sales Manager (GSM) for WSOC-TV, effective immediately.   

“Michelle was hired as the General Sales Manager for WAXN-TV, CMG Charlotte on March 21, 2011 and has done an outstanding job leading the TV64 sales team to new heights in both revenue development and revenue share growth,” said Joe Pomilla, CMG Charlotte’s VP & General Manager.  “She is a proven leader and has developed strong business relationships with key clients in the Charlotte market.  Michelle has also demonstrated her ability to collaborate with our leadership team to foster a positive culture of growth and development within our organization.”

Harper started her broadcast career at WTVD-TV in news, at the ABC O&O in the Raleigh-Durham market in 1985. She discovered her passion for broadcast sales and started her TV sales career in Charlotte, NC in 1989. Harper was a local account executive at WJZY and then joined WSOC-TV in the same capacity from 1993-1995 before moving to the national side of sales working at Seltel in Atlanta. 

After gaining valuable experience as a local AE and as a national rep, she moved to Greensboro working at WXLV/WUPN the ABC/UPN affiliate being promoted from regional Account Executive to National Sales Manager.  From August 2000-2004, Harper was hired as General Sales Manager for WTWB, the WB affiliate in Greensboro, NC and eventually made her way back to the ABC Owned, WTVD-TV as the National Sales Manager for seven years.
