June 19, 2018 – DAYTON, OHIO – After more than 30 years with Cox Media Group (CMG), WHIO-TV News Director Dave Bennallack has announced his retirement at the end of the year.

CMG is launching a nationwide search for a news director to lead the award-winning station. WHIO-TV is the No. 1 CBS affiliate in the country and, by far, the No. 1 news brand in the Dayton area, with a 70 percent local news share. WHIO-TV also operates as part of a groundbreaking team of more than 200 local journalists who are building the newsroom of the future.
Bennallack’s Cox career began at WSB-TV in Atlanta. Ultimately, he became managing editor before moving to El Paso, Texas, where he was news director for a newly launched station. In 2007, Bennallack joined WHIO-TV as news director and helped lead its integration with other CMG Ohio media outlets.
CMG is looking for a dynamic and collaborative leader with excellent news judgment to drive growth and extend the reach of WHIO-TV. The role is unique in today’s media business. The WHIO-TV news director will oversee more than 55 reporters, anchors, producers, videographers, meteorologists, breaking news experts and news managers, while helping to lead a cross-platform news operation of TV, radio, newspaper and digital journalists.
