TAMPA — April 21, 2020 — Cox Media Group (CMG) Tampa Radio stations WWRM (Magic 94-9), WPOI (Hot 101.5), WHPT (102.5 The Bone), WDUV (105.5 The Dove) and WXGL (107.3 The Eagle) partnered with Metropolitan Ministries to host Feed It Forward: A Virtual Food Drive last Thursday, April 16, where together they raised a monumental amount of nearly $268,000 in donations to help families who have been directly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Cox Media Group’s leadership has sparked tremendous generosity. We are so thankful for our partnership and the Feed it Forward virtual food drive, which allows us to have a louder voice in the community,” said President & CEO of Metropolitan Ministries Tim Marks. “Their team saw a challenge and immediately stepped up to help solve it with compassion for their neighbors in need. Giving inspires more giving, and it just keeps coming at a time when it is most needed.”
Jeff and Penny Vinik and The Vinik Family Foundation also donated $700,000 to Metropolitan Ministries to assist in the overwhelming need to help families through this devastating time in the Tampa community. Their gift comes on the heels of a week of generous giving to Metropolitan Ministries, inspired by Cox Media Group’s Feed It Forward campaign to support the Ministries’ hunger relief efforts.
“We at Cox Media Group Tampa are so grateful to the Tampa Bay Community for their generosity,” said Keith Lawless, Vice President and General Manager of CMG Tampa. “And we are thrilled that our virtual food drive has inspired even more donations. Metropolitan Ministries can help feed our community immediately with these funds and we are proud to partner with them.”
Metropolitan Ministries has seen an unprecedented need in the Tampa Bay community due to the rise of unemployment caused by COVID-19. On their website, www.metromin.org, donors will find all of the ways they can help within their community through Metropolitan Ministries and give back during this difficult time.
