Cox Media Group Louisville Lends a Hand for Tornado Relief Efforts

LOUISVILLE – March 12, 2012 Cox Media Group (CMG) Louisville’s WVEZ-FM, WSFR-FM, WQNU-FM and WRKA-FM came together March 11th to jointly broadcast and promote in the aftermath of a deadly storm that crashed through Clark County, Indiana March 2nd.

The stations joined forces to aid the quickly constructed Southern Indiana Tornado Relief Concert that took place at Silver Creek High School in Sellersburg, Indiana on March 11th. Organized by Mark Maxwell and local retailer Mom’s Music, the event featured over 40 bands on four separate stages.

The four radio stations heavily promoted the event in the days leading up to it with on-air coverage and mentions across various social networks. The day of the concert, all of the stations broadcast on-site outside the concert for four hours, conducting interviews with those involved and rallying folks to attend.

The event raised over $50,000 through attendee donations and a silent auction. All of the money raised will be donated to America Red Cross relief efforts in the area.   

“We couldn’t be silent,” Cox Media Group General Manager Todd Schumacher said. “We knew we had to find a way to help the community quickly and being able to be part of this amazing event was a tremendous opportunity.”
