ORLANDO – Nov. 8, 2012 – Cox Media Group (CMG) Orlando radio has promoted three of its programming and operations stars who will continue strengthening Central Florida’s top, award-winning radio group.
Stevie DeMann Promoted to Operations Manager for WWKA and WPYO
Stevie DeMann is now Operations Manager for CMG Orlando’s Country Station, K923 (WWKA) and Power 95.3 (WPYO). DeMann will report directly to Susan Larkin, Vice President and Market Manager. Most recently, DeMann has been Program Director of WPYO-FM for more than 5 years. In his time with the station, WPYO has consistently been a Top 1-3 station in the Orlando Market. He has also served as manager of the cluster’s Production department for the last 2 years.
“Stevie just celebrated five years here at Cox and has done a tremendous job forming, coaching and leading the Power team to success,” said Larkin. “He is very talented in developing morning show talent which will be a great asset to WWKA.”
“I am so excited for the future of K92,” said DeMann “I’ve had the opportunity over the last month and a half to be exposed to a brand new format, and to work side-by-side with ‘The AJ & Ashley Morning Show’ – and the future is bright for K!! JR Schumann is going to be a great leader for the K92 staff as Program Director and I look forward to partnering with him to establish a clear vision, and to rally a great staff around that.”
Born and raised just outside of Baltimore, Md., DeMann started in radio at age 16 working at Baltimore’s WBSB/B104 and WERQ/92Q. In 1997 he made the move to Orlando to work as on-air talent and Music Director at WJHM. In 2000, he was offered an on-air position at WJMN/Jam’n 94.5 where he spent the next year and a half. In 2001, he moved back to Orlando to serve as PD of WJHM/102 Jamz through 2007 when he joined Cox to become PD of Power.
JR Schumann Promoted to Program Director for WWKA
JR Schumann is now the Program Director for CMG Orlando’s Country Station, K923 (WWKA). Schumann will report directly to Stevie DeMann, Operations Manager, and WPYO & WWKA. Schumann joined CMG Orlando earlier this year as afternoon host of WWKA. Prior to that, Schumann was at CMG Birmingham where he served as Assistant Program Director and on-air talent.
“We have certainly seen the difference JR has made since he’s been here. K92.3 has never sounded better,” said Larkin. “I am excited to see even more development and success as he works with Stevie to make the station even stronger.”
“I’m very excited about this new opportunity with K92-3,” said Schumann. “The potential for this station is unlimited. The vision and goals are there; it’s just a matter of making those a reality…and that’s exactly what we’re going to do!”
JR started his radio career in Dallas with Radio Disney. He then went to KIXS to do mornings, then KIXB (El Dorado, AR) as PD, KYKX (Tyler/Longview, TX) as PD…then left for an on-air position in Dallas at KPLX. After a year and half in Dallas, Schumann headed to Birmingham to serve as on-air talent and MD/APD for WZZK-FM.
Hildi Schenck has been named Program Director for WMMO
Hildi Schenck has been named Program Director for WMMO. Schenck, who has been working as Assistant PD under the guidance of Michael Saunders, will continue to be on air in p.m. drive. “Hildi has exemplified the talent and leadership that it takes to lead the station, and we’re thrilled to see her take her career to the next level,” added Larkin.
“98.9 WMMO is the station I would have on if I had a ‘real’ office job,” said Schenck. “Working with this incredible team has been a gift for the past 11 years; we fit like a glove. To have them entrust me with this iconic Orlando radio station is an honor. WMMO listeners are the most passionate of any I’ve ever known, and it is my mission to thrill them in everything we do!
Schenck is an Orlando radio icon who started mid-days at XL 106.7 during the “boy band” craze. She was the afternoon drive air personality on Cox Media Group’s former classic rock station, WHTQ, and has been driving 98.9 WMMO listeners home since September 2011. Originally from Long Island, NY, she’s a University of Florida journalism school alumna whose musings were covered in the Orlando Sentinel’s “Help Me, Hildi” and “Girls Night Out” columns in the early 2000s.
