Tulsa, Okla. – The Cox Media Group (CMG) Tulsa family of stations raised $126,922 during its 13-hour fundraiser for the American Red Cross of Oklahoma on Thursday, May 30. CMG’s five radio stations – News 102.3 KRMG, K95.5, Mix96.5, 103.3 The Eagle, and 105.7 The Bone – joined FOX23 (KOKI-TV) at LaFortune Park and broadcasted live from the event. The money raised has been earmarked to stay in Oklahoma to assist with the recovery efforts following historic flooding and tornadoes.
The James M. Cox Family Foundation kicked off the event by vowing to match every donation up to $50,000. “This is such a great story of the speed in which local media properties can respond to the needs of our communities,” says Bill Hendrich, executive vice president of Cox Media Group.
Tulsa citizens responded by dropping off donations at LaFortune and donating online. Red Cross volunteers partnered with the CMG talent to accept donations and thank supporters.
“We knew Tulsa would respond to an opportunity to help their neighbors in a time of need, but we are absolutely blown away by the amount raised,” says Cathy Gunther, market vice president for CMG Tulsa. “It makes us proud to be able to respond quickly in difficult times and make an immediate impact – this is what Cox Media Group is all about!”
