Emmy Awards for WSOC-TV


Charlotte, NC — Feb. 1, 2011 — Weather Coverage and High School Football promotion earned WSOC-TV, Channel 9 gold statues at the 25th Annual Midsouth Regional Emmy Awards.  The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS), Nashville/Midsouth Chapter presented the awards on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville.   

Channel 9 Meteorologist Keith Monday was honored with an Emmy for “excellence in coverage of weather within a regularly scheduled newscast”.  The winning submission was for his winter storm forecast that hit January 29th, 2010 when the area received 3-6” of snow. Monday is seen every weekday on Eyewitness News Daybreak 5-7a.m., Eyewitness News This Morning 7-9a.m. on TV64 and Eyewitness News Midday at noon. 

An Emmy was also awarded to Channel 9 in the Promo Campaign category for “High School Football Extra 2009”, submitted by Creative Services Editor Ron J. DeJoseph, Jr. and Kate Carmody, former Creative Services Writer/Producer.

This year’s nearly 700 entries resulted in nominations for 70 companies in 72 categories. The ballots were judged by the Upper Midwest Chapter, based in Minneapolis, the Ohio Valley Chapter, based in Columbus, and the Mid-America Chapter, based in St. Louis. The nominations are from Huntsville, Alabama; Chattanooga, Dickson, Knoxville, Memphis, Nashville, and Tri-Cities, Tennessee; Charlotte, Durham, Greensboro, High Point, and Raleigh, North Carolina.
