With more than a decade of industry experience, Newman brings a commitment to value-based marketing that cuts through the noise audiences face today. Newman will lead creative and strategic marketing, commercial production, and graphic design to grow television ratings and digital audiences, while being the driving force of the FOX13 Memphis brand.
“Mike’s leadership, manner and award-winning eye for what speaks to consumers is a valued addition to our FOX13 team,” says Susan Connor, vice president and general manager of FOX13 Memphis. “As we look to build our brand and strengthen our connection with the audiences we serve, his creative vision will truly help take us to the next level.”
Newman joins FOX13 Memphis from WFTV in Orlando, Florida, where he served as senior promotions producer – writing, shooting, producing, and editing on-air and digital promotions for the station. Prior to joining WFTV, Newman served as promotions producer for WAVY-TV and WVBT-TV in Norfolk, Virginia. He began his career at WITN-TV in Greenville, North Carolina as a technical director for the station before becoming senior promotions producer. Newman was most recently awarded an Emmy in 2017 with WFTV for its promotion Live Moments, which highlighted Eyewitness News 9’s leading breaking news coverage.
“I’m beyond thrilled to join the creative team at FOX13. It’s an exciting time to grow my career at CMG and join WHBQ in the commitment to bring viewers the best breaking news, weather and investigative journalism in the mid-south,” says Newman. “My wife Erin and I can’t wait to experience the food, culture and music of Memphis and make it our new home.”
