New Hires at Cox Media Group Charlotte’s WSOC-TV Eyewitness News

>

Charlotte, NC – April 19, 2011 – The Eyewitness News team at WSOC-TV Channel 9 and TV64 (WAXN) welcomes two new faces to the on-air staff.   Allison Latos and Kathryn Burcham will both join WSOC-TV and TV64 from other Cox Media Group (CMG) stations on May 31, moves that exemplify CMG’s ability to tap existing talent within its network of media professionals.

Latos  will be an anchor/reporter seen on “Eyewitness News This Morning” on TV64 and “Eyewitness News Midday” on both stations.    She comes to WSOC-TV and TV64 from Cox Media Group sister station, WTOV in Steubenville, Ohio where she has been since 2006.   She currently anchors the evening news at 5 and 6 p.m. and the news at noon.  While at WTOV one of her investigative reports brought to light the heroin epidemic in the area that was not previously at the forefront and was the subject of a public awareness special.

A native of Wheeling, West Virginia, Latos attended West Virginia University where she graduated summa cum laude as an honors scholar.

Burcham will report for Eyewitness News on both stations.  She also comes from a Cox Media Group sister station.  She has been at WHIO-TV in Dayton, Ohio for more than three years.   Burcham’s reporting at WHIO led to multiple regional Emmy nominations and a National Edward R. Murrow Award for Video Investigative Reporting in 2010.  The Murrow award came after she uncovered government resistance to help a small community with toxic levels of arsenic in their drinking water.  Prior to WHIO she worked at a Peoria, IL television station based in its Bloomington-Normal bureau.

Raised in the Northern Kentucky-Cincinnati area, Burcham graduated summa cum laude from Western Kentucky University with degrees in Broadcast Journalism and Spanish.
