CHARLOTTE — July 29, 2013 — For over 30 years, Don Griffin has been the face and driving force behind WSOC-TV Channel 9’s daily ACTION 9 consumer reports. Now, after helping thousands of people with consumer complaints find solutions to their problems, Griffin has decided it’s time to retire.
“I love this job because I love helping people,” said Griffin. “But after giving it much thought, I’ve decided that now is the best time for me to retire in order to devote more time to my family.”
“Viewers will miss his sincere, no nonsense approach to his reporting. When people needed help, they knew they could turn to Don to resolve their consumer problems,” said Joe Pomilla, Vice President and General Manager of WSOC-TV/WAXN TV. “It has been my pleasure to work with Don and I admire him for his personal dedication to our community.”
When asked about one of his most memorable stories, Griffin cited his hidden camera investigation into air duct cleaning companies, exposing how they were charging people thousands of dollars for services they didn’t need.
“Don’s reporting skills are only matched by his compassion and genuine heartfelt approach, not only to our viewers, but to everyone he comes in contact with,” remarked Julie Szulczewski, News Director for WSOC-TV/WAXN TV.
His last day on WSOC-TV will be Sept. 27. Channel 9 is planning a week-long celebration on air to include a special tribute on how he’s helped so many people in our community.
“I’m excited about this new chapter in my life. But I will miss helping people get their justice,” said Don.
