ATLANTA – Cox Media Group (CMG) Atlanta has named Sean Garcia director of marketing for WSB-TV, effective Dec. 31, 2018. Garcia will assume the role of Steve Riley, who is retiring at the end of this year after serving as director of marketing at WSB-TV for the last 19 years.
“I’m very excited to join the creative and experienced marketing team at WSB-TV,” said Garcia. “Together with the country’s top TV journalists, the Channel 2 Action News brand will continue to dominate the market on television, digital, social, and its evolving OTT platform.”
In his new role, Garcia will develop and execute strategic marketing plans to recruit new TV and digital users, strengthen engagement with loyalists and introduce a differentiated WSB-TV brand to new residents moving to the market.
“Sean is an outstanding leader who has excelled at each position he’s held within our company,” said Donna Hall, vice president of marketing and radio/newspaper operations for CMG Atlanta. “He is well-respected across multiple Cox television stations, advocating for the brands and serving as a strong partner to his peers in all departments of each station.”
Most recently, Garcia served as senior director of marketing at CMG Orlando, which includes WFTV, WRDQ and its seven radio stations. Prior to this role, he was the promotion manager at CMG WJAX-TV in Jacksonville, Florida. Garcia has also worked as a promotion writer and producer at WSB-TV.
“Sean is well versed in the Cox playbook when it comes to the important relationship between news and marketing,” said Paul Briggs, vice president of content and broadcast operations for CMG Atlanta. “His multi-market experience and tutelage under a number of Cox Media Group marketing leaders has positioned him well for great success in the future.”
